Care & Maintenance
Your transmission should be serviced once per year or every 20,000 miles
We know a new transmission is exciting. There is a 500 mile break-in period. Therefore, we ask that you do not take your new transmission over half throttle. What does that mean? Do not floor the throttle. You may drive and tow normally.
Synthetic fluid is required for our builds. If you have a Dodge/RAM the transmission fluid in your new transmission uses a synthetic ATF+4, A Chevy/GMC is a multi-vehicle ATF synthetic. If you have a Ford the fluid is a Multi vehicle synthetic or you can use a Mercon 5. The transmission takes 16 Quarts for a stock pan and 19 -22 Quarts for a deep pan.
It is important to monitor the fluid levels on your transmission. The truck should be parked on level ground. Dodge/RAM transmissions must be checked in neutral with the truck running and the emergency brake set. Ford and Chevrolet transmissions can be checked in park position. The transmission stick will show hot or cold. You will need to know the transmission temperature. Top of cold is 120° Bottom of hot is 170°. When checking the fluid level look at both sides of the stick, the lower one is the accurate read.
